Details
Turn native-text PDF tables into one Excel workbook without uploading the file. The tool groups aligned selectable text into rows and columns, and each selected table becomes its own visible worksheet. Every value is stored as text, never as a formula. The workbook is reopened and its worksheet names, rows and cells must match, with no macros, external links or hidden sheets.
How to turn PDF tables into Excel
-
Choose a PDF
Press Choose a PDF, or drag and drop a file onto the page. The file stays in this browser tab.
-
Choose detected tables
The tool groups aligned selectable text into rows and columns. Every detected table is selected by default. Deselect any tables you do not need.
-
Build the workbook
Press Convert to Excel. Each selected table becomes a separate visible worksheet in one XLSX file. Every value is stored as text, never as a formula, so nothing runs unexpectedly when you open the file.
-
Check and download
The workbook is reopened. Worksheet names, rows and cells must match the detected matrices. The check also confirms no macros, formulas, external links or hidden sheets are present. Press Download Excel for the verified file.
What PDF table detection can and cannot do
A PDF records words at page coordinates, not spreadsheet cells. This tool looks for repeated alignment in the native text layer and keeps each detected table separate. It preserves the source text positions so you can verify the extraction against the original page.
The workbook check begins after detection. It proves the XLSX archive, worksheet names and text cells match the selected matrices. It cannot prove that a visually merged heading belongs to one column rather than two, which is why the receipt shows the source page beside the first worksheet. To convert a PDF table to Excel, the page must carry a native text layer. A scanned image of a table gives the detector nothing to align, so the tool refuses it instead of producing an empty workbook.
When you need to convert PDF tables to Excel
Extracting tables from PDFs into Excel workbooks fits several workflows. Here are situations where a browser-based PDF to Excel converter is the right tool:
- Extracting financial statements. When balance sheets, income statements and cash flow tables live in annual reports. Convert them into Excel worksheets for further modeling and analysis.
- Processing invoices and purchase orders. When line items, quantities and prices live in PDF invoices. Pull them into Excel for accounting, reconciliation and expense tracking.
- Converting research data tables. When results tables live in papers and reports. Extract them to Excel for charting, pivot tables and statistical analysis.
- Importing pricing and catalog data. When supplier price lists and product catalogs arrive as PDF tables. Convert them to Excel and import into inventory or procurement systems.
- Working with government data. When statistical bulletins, census tables and regulatory filings are published as PDFs. Extract the tables to Excel for analysis and reporting.
- Consolidating multiple tables from one document. When a single PDF report contains several tables. Each becomes its own worksheet, so you get an organized workbook without manual copy-paste.
For plain CSV output instead of an Excel workbook, try PDF to CSV. For the full text of a PDF in structured format, use PDF to Markdown. For rendered page images, use PDF to images.
Why a browser-based PDF to Excel converter matters
Uploading a PDF to a remote converter means financial data, customer information or proprietary research passes through a third-party system. If you prefer those files never leave your device, convert them here instead.
This page runs the entire conversion in your browser. Your PDF is opened, tables are detected, cells are extracted, the workbook is generated and verified, all without the file leaving your device. There is no account to create, and the conversion leaves no data on any server. This makes it suitable for confidential financial statements, customer data and proprietary research.
The verification step adds an extra layer of reliability. The generated XLSX is reopened, and its worksheet names, row counts and cell values must match what the detector produced. The check also confirms no macros, formulas, external links or hidden sheets are present. The download appears only after the check passes.
PDF to Excel frequently asked questions
- Does PDF to Excel upload my file?
- No. The PDF, detected tables, preview and workbook all stay in this browser tab during conversion. The conversion itself transmits nothing; the only exception is the optional problem report, which attaches a file only when you tick the box.
- Does this work on scanned PDF tables?
- Not yet. This version requires native selectable text. A scanned table needs OCR first, and this tool refuses it instead of producing an empty workbook.
- Which tables can it detect?
- It looks for text aligned into repeated rows and columns. Simple native-text tables work best. Merged cells, rotated tables, forms and multi-column page layouts may need manual correction in Excel afterward.
- How are multiple tables handled?
- Each selected table becomes its own visible worksheet in one XLSX file. Tables are never combined, and each sheet gets its own name based on the source page.
- Does the workbook contain formulas?
- No. Every value is stored as text. This tool never creates formulas, macros, hidden sheets or external links. This prevents accidental formula execution when you open the file.
- What does the verification check prove?
- It reopens the XLSX archive and confirms that worksheet names, row counts and cell values match the detected matrices, with no macros, formulas, external links or hidden sheets. A failed check means no download.
- Can I get the same data as CSV instead?
- Yes. The PDF to CSV tool uses the same detection engine and produces CSV files with an optional spreadsheet-safe mode for formula characters.
- Is there a page or table limit?
- There is no artificial task cap or hourly limit on the number of tables or pages. Very large PDFs are still bound by your browser tab's memory and may take longer to process.
